What is concierge medicine?
Concierge medicine is primary care built around a membership. For an annual fee, Dr. Ruiz keeps a smaller practice, so you get longer visits, same- or next-day appointments and direct access to him by phone and email, 24 hours a day. Your insurance still covers labs, imaging, specialists and hospital care. At our Fort Lauderdale office, your concierge doctor is also a board-certified sleep specialist.
What your membership includes
24-hour access to your doctor
Reach Dr. Ruiz by phone or email for urgent needs, prescriptions and medical questions, day or night.
Unhurried visits
Appointments are typically 45 minutes or longer, so there's time to talk through everything, not a rushed 15-minute slot.
Same- or next-day appointments
When something comes up, you're seen quickly.
A deliberately small practice
Dr. Ruiz limits the number of concierge patients so he can know each one well.
In-office EKGs and lab draws
Common tests happen right at the office, without a separate trip.
Care in the hospital
Dr. Ruiz has admitting privileges at local hospitals and stays involved if you're admitted, depending on your insurance and the hospital.
Your records, ready to go
Each visit ends with an up-to-date list of your diagnoses and medications, useful in any emergency.
Sleep medicine under the same roof
As a board-certified sleep specialist, Dr. Ruiz can evaluate snoring, insomnia or fatigue without sending you elsewhere.

A concierge doctor who is also a sleep specialist
Poor sleep affects blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and mood, and sleep apnea often goes unnoticed for years. Because Dr. Ruiz is board-certified in both internal medicine and sleep medicine, your primary care doctor can recognize a sleep problem, order a sleep study and manage treatment himself.
That means fewer referrals, one doctor who knows your whole history, and sleep care that fits with the rest of your health.

Concierge medicine questions
What is concierge medicine?
Concierge medicine is primary care built around a membership. In exchange for an annual fee, the practice keeps a smaller number of patients so each one gets more time, faster appointments and direct access to the doctor.
Do I still need health insurance?
Yes. Insurance still covers what it normally covers, such as labs, imaging, specialists and hospital care, and visits are billed to your insurance with your usual copays. The membership fee is separate and isn't covered by private insurance.
How much is the membership?
Call the office at (954) 839-6987 and we'll explain the annual membership fee and what applies to your insurance. You can also ask during a complimentary meet-and-greet with Dr. Ruiz.
Can I use an FSA or HSA for the membership fee?
Some employer flexible spending accounts or medical savings accounts may reimburse the fee. Check with your plan administrator, since rules vary. The fee can't be applied to your insurance deductible.
Do I need to join to see Dr. Ruiz for primary care?
Yes. Primary care at the practice is offered through the concierge program, so one doctor follows your care over time. Sleep medicine visits don't require membership.
What if Dr. Ruiz is away?
When he's away, trusted colleagues cover for him.
What should I do in an emergency?
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room first. Then let the office know so Dr. Ruiz can follow up.
